Ballarat Tennis Club hosts Sydney

Nerves of steel - Amanda and Andrew in action in the deciding match!

Saturday 27 th and Sunday 28 th May 2023

A team of 9 players and 2 partners took on the might of Ballarat over two cold days in May for the Doug Grant trophy. SRTC very quickly found themselves 4 matches down before Amanda Murphy and Ivan Resnekov steadied the ship and set us on a path to ultimate victory but not before some very tense moments on Sunday afternoon. We were thrilled to have Greg Reid playing for us for the first time after several false starts over the years as well as welcoming Stephen Powell to the team.

We were fed a fabulous curry dinner on Saturday evening curtesy of Annie Strange and Andrew Reeves. The two teams shared a table in the club rooms with Paul Tabley in fine form. Luckily for us we had a late start on Sunday, a day SRTC usually fall apart on tour as the late nights take a tolll, however this time we stayed focused and won 5 of the 6 matches to take the trophy home with us.

It all came down to the final match of the weekend and when the scores were 6 all you could have heard a pin drop in the dedans. Andrew Aouad and Amanda Murphy kept their best to last and came home in style. It should be noted that Amanda went undefeated all weekend.

The team

Andrew Aouad, Chris Cooper (supported by Claire), Sav Cremona, Dick Friend, Amanda Murphy, Stephen Powell, Greg Reid, Ivan Resnekov, (supported by Gudrun), James Willis
